Artist Laurie McCarthy has a BA degree in Fine
Art from Hamilton College, with post-graduate studies
in interior design at Parsons School of Design, as well
as in business administration at Baruch College. She
has been painting photo-realistic urban images for the
last 20 years, and has expanded her subject matter to
include local scenery and Rufus Porter-inspired folk
art painting since relocating to the Cape from New York
City in 2004.
Her commercial illustration work over the last 10 years has appeared on consumer packaging and in corporate identity programs for Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Coca Cola Puerto Rico, Reggie's Roast Coffees, and Chatham Bars Inn, as well as for children's products by Gerber and Lander (a WalMart brand), among others. Her fine art paintings and etchings have been exhibited at Eleanor Ettinger Gallery, Salmagundi Club and Knickerbocker Artists (all in New York City), at Bonwit Teller and University Of The Arts (both in Philadelphia), at Payne Gallery in Bethlehem, PA, and at Emerson Gallery in Clinton, NY.
In 2004, the artist launched McCarthy Design Studio, which offers murals, faux finishes, trompe l'oeil effects, room borders and coordinating painted furniture and accessories, for both adults and children. Her special interest is in Early American primitive murals and wall decoration. She is a member of the Cape Cod Artists Association in Barnstable, the Creative Arts Center in Chatham, and the Artisans Guild of Cape Cod, as well as the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She is currently working on her first children's picture book.
